AI自動運転に変革の波、Tesla・中国推進の「E2E」には反論も 全2972文字 AI（人工知能）技術の進化に伴い、クルマの自動運転に変革の波が押し寄せている。脚光を浴びているのが、車両周囲の認識から操作までを全面的にAIが担う「E2E（End to End）」の自動運転技術だ。米Tesla（テスラ）や中国勢などが推進している。高精度地図が不要となり、低コストで自動運転を実現できるとの期待がある。「E2Eは万能ではない」といった懐疑論もあるが、自動運転システムや高度な先進運転支援システム（ADAS）におけるAI活用は安全性や利便性を高める上で必須になりつつある。 「自動運転車は人間の10倍安全になる」――。Tesla最高経営責任者（CEO）のElon Musk（イーロン・マスク）氏は、同社が2024年10月に開いた自動運転タクシー（ロボタクシー）の発表イベントで、こう豪語した。同社は2027年までに特定条件下でシステムが全ての運転を担う自動運転「レベル4」のロボタクシーの実用化を目指す。世界を走る何百万台ものTesla車から集まる膨大な走行データを学習させ、優れた自動運転AIを作り上げる考えだ。 Tesla CEOのイーロン・マスク氏と同社のロボタクシー「Cybercab」 [画像のクリックで拡大表示] ロボタクシーの前段階として、Teslaは2025年内に米テキサス州と同カリフォルニア州において、既存車種で運転者による監視が必要ない自動運転システムを実用化する計画も掲げる。同社の主力電気自動車（EV）「Model 3（モデル3）」や「Model Y（モデルY）」が対象となる。同社のADAS「FSD（Full Self-Driving）」をOTA（Over The Air）によるソフト更新で改良し、販売済みの車両でも対応するとみられる。 TeslaのFSDは2023年に導入した「Version 12（V12）」からE2E方式を採用している。従来の「ルールベース」の自動運転システム/ADASは、人間が考えたアルゴリズムを使い、別々に設計した複数のソフトウエアモジュールを組み合わせている。これに対し、E2Eの自動運転/ADASでは、車両周囲の認識、判断、操作といった自動運転に必要な全てのタスクを単一の大規模なAIモデルが担う。 ルールベースとE2Eの自動運転/ADAS [画像のクリックで拡大表示] 同社のADASにおける特徴の1つが、データ入力に使うセンサーがカメラのみであることだ。高価なLiDAR（レーザーレーダー）だけでなく、ミリ波レーダーや超音波センサーすら使用しない。こうした低コストなセンサー構成を維持しながら、特定条件下でハンズオフとアイズオフが可能な「レベル3」、特定条件下での完全自動運転ができるレベル4を実現する考えだ。 トランプ氏との蜜月で規制緩和か 一方で、Waymoの競合だった米General Motors（ゼネラル・モーターズ、GM）傘下の同GM Cruise（GMクルーズ）は、約1年間と急ピッチで同試験を進めた。その結果、2023年に人身事故を起こし、2024年12月にはロボタクシー事業からの撤退に追い込まれた。 ロボタクシーで後発のTeslaにとっても規制当局の認可が大きなハードルとみられるが、2025年1月20日にマスク氏と親密な関係にあるDonald J.Trump（ドナルド・トランプ）氏が米大統領に就任し、状況が変わる可能性が出てきた。マスク氏は新政権でポストを与えられるほどトランプ氏と接近している。自動車業界に詳しいアナリストは「米国の自動運転の規制が緩和されるのではないか」と口をそろえる。 中国勢もE2Eに移行 こうした中、Teslaを猛追しているのが中国勢だ。2024年後半以降、新興や異業種が次々とE2Eを導入し始めた。自動車メーカーでは、中国・理想汽車（Li Auto）や同・小鵬汽車（Xpeng Motors）などが台頭。サプライヤーでは「中国における自動運転の大本命」（自動車業界に詳しい専門家）とされる通信機器大手の中国・華為技術（Huawei）や、自動運転ソフトを手掛ける中国新興Momenta（モメンタ）などが存在感を高めている。 各社の自動運転/ADASの方式とセンサー構成による分類 「」内はシステムの名称。Huaweiの最新ADAS「ADS 3.0」やソニー・ホンダモビリティ（東京・港）のADAS「AFEELA Intelligent Drive」は、ルールベースとE2Eを組み合わせている。ティアフォー（名古屋市）も2024年10月、両方式を使う自動運転システムの開発に乗り出すと発表した。Momentaの写真の車両は、同社が開発したADASを搭載する中国・智己汽車（IM Motors）の「LS6」である。（出所：各社の発表や取材を基に日経Automotiveが作成、車両の写真はTeslaとチューリング以外は日経Automotiveが撮影） [画像のクリックで拡大表示]
