Exotec launches next-generation Skypod system

Feb 13, 2025

Warehouse robotics developer Exotec has launched the next-generation version of its flagship Skypod system with updated features, after secretly deploying it for the past two years The new system now has several design improvements including a more compact Skypod robot, a workstation for robot-to-robot picking, a high-throughput Exchanger, and denser storage. The redesigns, along with updated software features reportedly improve throughput at a particular workstation by 50%, while enhancing density by up to 30% compared to the previous generation of the system, according to Exotec. The main differentiator between the new and old system is that it is now able to handle both individual and case picking, and supports a number of logistics features that traditionally require external equipment and various subsystems. This cuts down the number of conveyor belts, sorters, packing stations, and external storage the operator needs. The system is able to do this because it can handle buffering. Following order preparation at a workstation, completed or semi-completed orders get automatically stored inside the racks until they are ready for outbound, or further consolidation. Romain Moulin, CEO and co-founder of Exotec, said: “When designing the next-generation Skypod, our goal was to create a solution that would set the industry standard of operational excellence and elegance for the next decade and beyond.” Join more than 11,000 industry leaders at  Robotics and Automation Exhibition on 25-26 March 2025, at the NEC Birmingham to explore cutting-edge technologies, connect with peers and discover the latest innovations shaping the future of warehousing, manufacturing, engineering and logistics.
